Robert M. Morand Scholarship Fund

The Rev. Robert M. Morand loved Detroit before it was cool. He was born and raised in the city, and lived his life there, serving people of all kinds as a teacher, pastor and friend, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. A strong believer in providing quality Catholic education for Detroit’s children, Fr. Bob helped found St. Martin DePorres High School in 1964. Nearly 10,000 students benefited from his vision until the school was closed in 2005.

Before he passed, Fr. Bob requested a scholarship be established in his name that would continue to help children who are residents of the City of Detroit to attend Catholic high schools within the city. The Robert M. Morand Scholarship Fund helps ensure his vision lives on.

Donations provide tuition assistance for students to attend:

  • Detroit Cristo Rey High School
  • Loyola High School
  • The University of Detroit Jesuit High School

Another organization close to Fr. Bob’s heart was Camp Sancta Maria in Gaylord, Michigan. He attended the summer camp as a child and sent many children there for a one-of-a-kind camp life experience with an emphasis on Catholic teachings. In his memory, the Robert M. Morand Scholarship Fund also provides a Detroit child with a camp scholarship each year.
